If you thought dating was complicated, try doing it under the watchful eye of your mom.

OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) is turning up the heat—and the heart—in its newest love and relationship series, #Somebody’s Son, premiering Saturday, April 12 at 9pm ET/PT. Inspired by the viral hashtag celebrating Black love, the series takes the familiar search for romance and adds an unexpected twist: the men’s mothers (or mother figures) are tagging along for the entire ride.

#Somebody’s Son follows three accomplished, single Black men as they open their hearts to find lasting love among a curated group of strong, driven women. But this is no solo journey. Their moms are not only guiding their choices—they’re moving in. Literally. The women vying for a chance at love must also live under the same roof as the bachelors and their ever-watchful mothers.

In a genre packed with over-the-top romance and wild antics, #Somebody’s Son offers something a little deeper. It’s a bold look at how family dynamics, especially between mothers and sons, can shape romantic relationships. There will be bonding, competition, clashing perspectives, and plenty of vulnerable moments as the cast navigates the sometimes-blurry line between wisdom and control.

Meet the men of the moment:

  • Joshua (28), a free agent in the NFL, is joined by his aunt Oma, a nurturing nurse who raised him. He’s hoping to find someone laid-back but driven. His dating pool includes a tech marketing manager, a nurse, a mortgage broker, and a news producer.
  • James (29), a cybersecurity engineer, is matched with four accomplished women—all while being coached by his mom, Charlease, a powerhouse businesswoman with traditional values.
  • Chadd (30), a financial analyst, and his mother Katina—a minister and salon owner—are looking for a faith-filled partner ready to start a family. His lineup of potential matches ranges from an esthetician to a corporate HR pro.

OWN fans can expect heartfelt conversations, competitive challenges, and a front-row seat to the often-complicated influence mothers can have on love. But don’t expect the women to sit back quietly—these ladies have their own expectations, and the men will need to rise to the occasion.

Will love blossom under mom’s watchful eye? Or will the added pressure push connections to the brink? You’ll have to tune in to find out.
