CBS and Dick Clark Productions have announced that Janet Jackson will be honored with the prestigious Icon Award at the 2025 American Music Awards, recognizing her unmatched impact on music and global culture. The pop legend, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and 11-time AMA winner will also perform live for the first time on television since 2018.
The AMAs, now in their 51st year, will air live coast to coast from the Fontainebleau Hotel in Las Vegas on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, at 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT on CBS. The show will stream on Paramount+ for subscribers with SHOWTIME access. Hosted by Jennifer Lopez, who is also slated to perform, the ceremony will feature tributes to U.S. troops and veterans, alongside a slate of highly anticipated performances. Tickets are currently available via Ticketmaster.
This year marks Jackson’s 50th in the music industry, and her cultural relevance is as strong as ever. Her 2001 hit “Someone to Call My Lover” recently experienced a viral resurgence on social media, pushing the track back onto the Billboard charts and reaching No. 3 on the R&B Digital Songs chart. According to Luminate, the song saw a 1,400 percent increase in U.S. on-demand streams compared to the previous year.
Jackson is also returning to the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas this May for an extended leg of her sold-out residency, JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS, with shows scheduled from May 21 through May 31. The production, packed with high-energy performances, deep cuts, and signature hits, continues to showcase the icon’s staying power. Her recent New Year’s run at the same venue earned critical acclaim, with fashion moments designed by Thom Browne and setlists spanning decades of groundbreaking music. A trailblazer in both music and performance, Jackson has sold over 180 million records worldwide and made Billboard history with albums like Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, and janet. She holds the record for the biggest-selling debut tour in history and remains one of the few artists with No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 in four consecutive decades. In 2023, her Together Again tour became the highest-grossing trek of her career, with 36 sold-out shows and widespread critical praise. Outlets including The Chicago Tribune and The Boston Globe called her performances “showstopping,” “flawless,” and “a killer live act.”
